Nest does not offer in-house professional installation. Nor does it offer its own 24/7 professional monitoring, making it a less attractive option for those who don’t have the time to DIY. However, Google Nest’s Security Systems are among the most purchased in America due to their innovative, Assistant-compatible product range. With sleek designs and advanced features, the automation products help consumers monitor their homes and control the ambiance.
Google nest offers a subscription to Nest Aware along with its video-capable products. The products such as the Nest doorbell will work without the subscription but many significant features would be unavailable. You could view the video in real-time but not save the recordings. You will not have access to the intelligent activity zoning function. The Nest app stores screenshots for only a few hours in the absence of Nest Aware subscription. The tool, Aware can also distinguish people from animals.
First, you must download the Google Home app and connect your Nest devices to the app. This can be done by tapping the Add + icon and then setting up new devices. You can then assign nicknames to the Nest security devices. You can control the devices using voice commands or by using the Home app.
Google Nest Mini is not a home security device but a beautifully designed smart speaker. It responds to voice commands to the Google Assistant. One can play news, music, etc. In a way, it may serve home security needs as it can play alerts and one can control the smart home through it.
The Nest X Yale Lock is a smart lock. It is a key-free deadbolt to lock and unlock your house doors from anywhere. These locks are tamper-proof and harder to break than traditional deadbolts. One needs a password to unlock them. The Google Assistant enables you to keep an eye on the door and who comes and goes. It sends alerts. You can set up your door to lock automatically when you are not at home. This can be done remotely through the Nest app or in the keypad itself. You can also unlock the Nest X Yale Lock easily if it loses battery power by charging it with a 9 V battery.
Nest does not have its own professional monitoring company. It has tied up with Brinks Home Security to offer the same. Brinks has trained response teams to address issues such as alarms going off when you are not at home. You get a 30-day free trial to test out the services. You can also opt for other monitoring-only security providers.
You can periodically delete the data stored by the Google Home app. Launch Settings in the app and tap More Settings under Google Assistant Services. Then, select Your Data in the Your Info tab. Go to Voice And Audio Recordings and tap See And Delete Activity. Tap the three dots and select Delete. You can also change the data saving settings in the Assistant app and determine what you want to permit Google to save.
